When it comes to bedroom storage boxes, you want something that’s not only functional and attractive, but also practical. These units help you hide away shoes, blankets and other items that aren’t used daily, but which can clutter a room quickly. Fortunately, there are plenty of options on the market, from baskets that slide under beds to stackable plastic bins. Many come with a lid that protects contents from dust and insects, while a clear design lets you see what’s inside.

You can even turn old dresser drawers into a handy storage system by affixing casters to the bottom of the drawers or replacing their knobs with handles for easy pulling. Or, use a repurposed crate to hold linens or out-of-season clothing beneath your bed. Labeling the top or sides of these containers is a good way to keep them organized, and you can purchase removable stickers for this purpose.

Underbed storage containers are a smart choice for storing items like hobby and craft supplies, clean bedding for guests, boxed shoes that you wear only on occasions and extra towels. Look for a container with a lid that protects belongings from dust, and consider opting for one with a dual-hinged lid or zippers to make it easier to retrieve items. If you want to be able to see what’s stored in your underbed storage, choose a plastic container that’s clear and durable enough to stand up to frequent use.

If you’re concerned about a moth problem, look for an airtight option to help preserve delicate fabrics and other items. A bin with a cotton canvas shell will treat linens, bed sheets and other fabric gently while reducing moisture. If you want to keep sentimental items under the bed, such as memorabilia or old photos, opt for acid-free containers to prevent discoloration and deterioration.

Aside from under-bed storage, you can also utilize the space in your closet by hanging some stylish shelving. This is a great option for narrow closets, as the shelves can be placed close to the floor for easy access. You can find plenty of shelving systems online and at home improvement stores, but you may also be able to create your own simple storage solution using sturdy boards that you paint in the color of your choosing.

You can also stow items in the nook under a bunk or loft bed, which is ideal for a children’s bedroom. A custom-made storage unit that attaches to the side of a bunk bed is one option, but you can also repurpose a set of sturdy trunks as a kids’ toy chest or a set of stacked trunks that double as a desk for your child. This type of bedroom storage is also a great choice for small apartments or condos where wall space is at a premium. Adding a wardrobe to the end of your bed can also provide more storage for shoes, clothes and other essentials. Some options include built-in closet systems, which allow you to hang long garments like dresses and pants, as well as shorter pieces such as shirts and sweaters.
